Recap of the Week:

Last week was another busy one. We continued to talk about apples and began to talk a little bit about fire safety. In Math the children matched numbered clothespins to trees with the correct amount of apples. We also talked about position words. We played a game called: "Teddy Says" to review the words. In our unit: "Ready for School" we read: "Friends at School". Before reading, we made predictions about what the children might do at school. We talked about the story words: scoop and lid. We acted out the word scoop and talked about why it's important to use lids. In Religion we read the bible story: "Jesus Blesses the Children".We talked about how we can thank God for loving us. On Friday we read about Saint Francis and Father Gerlach came in to bless our stuffed animals.
We continued to practice spelling and writing our names. We started our Handwriting without Tears curriculum. We learned the Mat Man song and built him as a class. After building Mat Man, the children practiced drawing a person.
The children had fun doing their first STEM project. They built apple trees with Popsicle sticks and toilet paper rolls. The goal was to build a tree that could hold the most apples (red pom poms).
The children also completed their "Ten Apples Up on Top" craft. They glued numbered apples in order from 1 to 10 above a picture of themselves.

This Coming Week:

We will focus on the letter L this week. A letter book will come home on Tuesday or Wednesday. We do four pages in school and the children can finish it at home. They may bring it back in for a sticker. Please send in 2-3 pictures or environmental print beginning with the letter L. We will add the pictures and words to the back of our list of L words. In Religion we'll read the story: "Who is God's Favorite?". We'll talk about how we're all different and that's what makes us special. We'll continue to talk about Fire Safety. We'll read about some safety tips in our Weekly Reader. We will make a firetruck from shapes of construction paper.
In our unit: "Ready for School" we'll read: "A Splendid Friend, Indeed". Our story words are: splendid and note. After reading, we'll talk about ways we can share like Bear and Goose in the story.
The children will make fall trees. They will glue a silhouette of a tree on to a piece of construction paper and glue scraps of colored paper to the tree for leaves. We will begin to paint pumpkins at the easel this week.
