- We’re in need of lunch time volunteers Monday-Friday from 12-1pm. Mrs. Franz, the Pre-K 4 aide will be in the classroom with you as well as a lunch helper on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We especially need parent volunteers on Mondays and Fridays because we don’t have a lunch helper from the cafeteria. The sign-up genius link for October is: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b4ca4ae2baafd0-october

- Safe Environment lessons will be taught to grades Pre-K 3-8th on Wednesday, October 23rd. There are two lessons. One is taught in October and the other in May. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires that these lessons be taught to the children. If you would prefer that your child not participate, please call the main office before Wednesday, October 23rd.

- Regular afternoon carline in the front of school: It seems that we are having an unnecessary back-up issue at afternoon carline dismissal. The carline children are dismissed at 2:53PM. If you are coming too early, you might want to come later. Teachers remain on carline duty until all children have been picked up. We ask all parents/grandparents to form two lines when coming to pick up your children/grandchildren. If you would see a “back-up”, rather than waiting on Rt. 3, please drive into the Church lot. Please remind your child/ren not to "run" to the car when they see you. Teachers will ensure that it is safe (all cars have stopped) and either walk the child to the waiting car or instruct the older children to proceed. We do strive to get all children safely and quickly to their cars. Thank you to all our drivers for your cooperation and patience as we ensure the safety of our children.

Recap of the Week:

This week we focused on the letter L and fire safety. We completed four pages in our letter booklet. The other four pages can be completed at home and brought back in for a sticker. We came up with a list of words beginning with the letter L. Thank you for sending in all the pictures and words beginning with L. We glued them to the back of our chart. We made upper and lowercase L's with blocks. The children had fun sharing their letter L Show and Tell items.
We read about fire safety tips in our Scholastic weekly reader. The children also had fun exploring our fire safety themed centers. The art center contained play dough, fire trucks, fire fighters, people and dog cookie cutters as well as play dough extruders. The sensory table was filled with water beads, houses, hand scoopers, firefighters and fire trucks. We made a firetruck craft from shapes of construction paper.
In Religion we read the story: "Who is God's Favorite?". We talked about how we're all unique and different and that's what makes us so special.
In our "Ready for School" unit we read: "A Splendid Friend Indeed".We talked about the story words: note and splendid. We pretended to write a note to a splendid friend. We also discussed ways we can share in our classroom like Bear and Goose shared in the story.
The Firefighters came to visit on Thursday morning. They taught us the difference between a good fire and a bad fire. We each gave the firefighter a high-five. They showed us around their truck,. We even got to go inside!
The Walk-A-Thon on Friday was a lot of fun! The children had fun walking with a fifth grade buddy or older sibling. DJ Clyde kept them moving with some great music. Once the Walk-A-Thon was over, everyone got an ice cream treat. Thank you again to all the parent volunteers!

This Coming Week :

This week we'll be focusing on the letter F. We will complete four pages in our F booklet. The other four pages can be completed at home and brought back in for a sticker. Please send in clippings of words or pictures beginning with the letter F from magazines, cereal boxes, newspapers, etc. The children should be helping to find and cut out the pictures and words. We will practice writing Letter F on mini chalkboards using the Handwriting without Tears method of Wet, Dry, Try.
In Religion we'll read about our Lady's appearance to the three children in Fatima. We will also read the story of the Good Shepherd. We'll talk about how Jesus is the Good Shepherd because he loves and takes care of each of us.
We will read some Halloween stories and learn some new Halloween songs.
The children will make ghosts for our bulletin board. We will also begin to paint pumpkins at the easel.
In our "Ready for School " unit we'll talk about how the children on our Big Wall Chart are working together to learn. We will brainstorm a list of things that are better when done together. In Math we'll talk about the difference between height and length.
