Recap of the Week:

Last week was a short, fun week! We continued to talk about the letter E and completed some fun Halloween activities/ crafts. We read about All Saints Day in Religion. The saints were friends of Jesus. We talked about things we can do at home and school to be a friend of Jesus. We voted on our favorite Jack-O-Lantern painting in the hallway. Congratulations to Lainey and Charlotte. Lainey received the most votes and Charlotte was a close second. We also voted on a design to be carved into our class pumpkin. We used a tally graph to record the votes. The ghost design won. The children helped scoop the pulp and seeds out and Mrs. Franz carved the ghost into the pumpkin.
We read: "Where's My Mummy?" and made yarn wrapped mummies. On Wednesday we had our Halloween parade and party. It was nice to see so many parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, etc. at the parade. Thank you to the parents who helped out with the class party. The children had so much fun! They enjoyed a snack, made a Halloween mask, played a ring toss game with witch hats and danced to Halloween music.

This Coming Week:

This week we'll focus on the letter H. We'll complete four pages in our letter booklet. The other four pages can be completed at home and brought back in for a sticker. Please send in 2-3 clippings of words or pictures beginning with the letter H from magazines, newspapers, cereal boxes, etc. The children should be helping to find and cut out the pictures and words. We'll read about being thankful in our Scholastic weekly reader. We'll identify the rhyming words as we read. On the back of the leaflet, we'll find and circle the letters in the word: GRATEFUL.
We'll read about the first Thanksgiving and begin to learn some Thanksgiving songs. We'll make owls from toilet paper rolls for the bulletin board in our classroom. We'll also make 3D pumpkins from construction paper and begin some Native American crafts.
We'll practice writing upper and lowercase H in our Handwriting without Tears workbooks. On Tuesday we'll talk a little bit about the voting process and read the book: "Splat for President". The children will vote for their favorite cracker: squares (graham crackers) or circles (Ritz). The one with the most votes will be served with snack on Tuesday.
In our Ready for School unit we'll test items to see whether or not they're magnetic. We'll review the story characters we've met in the unit thus far. We'll talk about how the children are sharing/cooperating in the pictures on the Big Wall Chart. We'll review the terms shorter and longer while playing a game that involves cooperation.
