Show and Tell: Letter U or something that relates to Advent 

* Our dress down day for Merit week is this Thursday, December 5th. Only children with a note on their December calendar that reads:"may dress down for Merit week" can dress down. The children can not have more than one calendar mark on their November calendar. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you! 

Monday:

Tuesday: Music 

Wednesday: Gym/ Mission Wednesday (every little bit helps) 

Thursday: Saint Nicholas' Feast Day/ Merit Week dress down day/ Computers (please send in headphones in a labeled bag) 

Friday: Crazy Christmas dress down day/ Library.
If your child decides to dress down for Crazy Christmas dress down day, they should bring in a donation for the Ronald McDonald house. Thank you! 

- I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you to all the parents who helped at the Thanksgiving feast or sent something in. It was greatly appreciated! 

- We'll be visiting Santa's Secret Shop on Friday, December 13th from 9:40am-10:20am. If you're available and have all your clearances, we could use your help. A sign-up genius for volunteers was sent out today, Monday, December 2nd. 
Home and School is looking for a new chair for next year's Santa Shop. They have one volunteer so far but could use one or two more plus a committee of helpers. If you have an questions, please contact Gina Williams at gpagatto@gmail.com 

- Our Christmas Play is on Monday, December 16th. Please continue to go over your child's lines and the songs at home. Thank you!!
If your child is not usually here on Mondays, you can drop them off at regular time and take them home after the show. 

- We'll be making Gingerbread houses with the 8th graders on Wednesday, December 18th. I'll be asking for your assistance with some of the materials needed for the project. A sign-up genius will be sent out soon. Thank you!!

- In the event that we have an early dismissal all children with siblings will be sent up to regular carline. Children who don't have siblings should be picked up at the Cavanaugh Hall doors. 

- The weather is getting much colder. Please make sure your child has a coat, hat and gloves. We try to go out everyday even if it's just for a little bit. 

- Please make sure everything you send in with your child is labeled. Thank you!

- SSJ registration for current students and siblings is now open for the 2020-2021 school year. If you didn't receive the Option C parent alert email, please contact Maureen Conlon at mconlon@simonandjude.org

- SSJ's Home and School is still selling raffles. You have the chance to win $200 dollars each Friday in the school drawing. Help support SSJ. 

- Saturday, December 7th is Breakfast with Santa in Monihan hall from 9:30am-11:30am. More information can be found in the school newsletter. 

- SSJ's Night at the Races is on Saturday, March 21st. There will be a volunteer meeting soon. Please contact Jen Doran with any questions at jenniferdoran413@gmail.com 

- SSJ has a new Moms group for moms of all ages. More information can be found in the newsletter. 

- Science fair judges are needed to judge 8th grade science fair projects on Wednesday, January 29th. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. More information can be found in the newsletter. Please email Mrs. Dryfoos with any questions at jdryfoos@simonandjude.org 

- SSJ's Career day is on Monday, January 27th. We are looking for presenters. If you're interested in presenting please contact Heather Coulter at heatherco@cciu.org 

- Tuition assistance is available to all SSJ who qualify or have a short term financial need. Please see the newsletter for more information. 

This Coming Week: 

This week we'll focus on the letter U. We'll glue a unicorn to the cover of our letter book and complete two pages to improve letter recognition. The rest will be sent home.We'll practice writing upper and lowercase U in our HWT books. We'll brainstorm a list of words beginning with the letter U. Please send in pictures or words beginning with U for our chart. This week we'll begin to talk about Advent.We'll read the story: "An Angel Brings Wonderful News to Mary".We'll talk about how Advent is time of waiting and preparing our hearts for Jesus. We'll make an Advent wreath from a paper plate and toilet paper rolls. We will celebrate Saint Nicholas' feast day on Thursday. The children will begin to work on some Christmas crafts/ projects. We'll continue to practice our lines and songs for the Nativity play.  
We'll begin a new unit called: "Our Community". We'll talk about different places in the community. We'll read the book" Lola at the Library" and recall what happened before, during and after Lola went to the library.
